Meet the Founder
MATT SMITH
Matt has lived and breathed tennis his whole life. As a junior, he topped the European rankings (ETA No.1 twice), won the World, European, and British Championships. As a senior pro he reached ATP #290, winning five professional singles titles before a wrist injury aged 21 cut his career short.
Since then, Matt has gone on to become an LTA Level 5 Master Performance Coach, RPT International, USTA High Performance Coach, PTR Professional Grade and an LTA Coach Education Tutor and Assessor. He’s run high-performance academies in Spain, the US and the UK coaching everyone from European and British junior champions to Grand Slam competitors.

Coach and parent education is at the heart of CourtSmart. Matt’s approach is all about communication, building understanding and finding the simple but powerful tools that make a genuine difference. He believes that while fundamentals are always key, the real magic happens when you understand the unique characteristics of the person in front of you – be it a player, coach, parent or team.

He knows what it’s like to wish for a second opinion. Whether it's a fresh set of eyes on a player, independent video analysis or just someone to confirm you’re on the right track, every coach can benefit from quality outside support.
Bridging Gaps
Traditional coaching qualifications can often leave gaps in important areas. He has hired many coaches with great attitudes but limited practical on-court skills. CourtSmart focuses on usable, real-world tools that will make an immediate difference on and off court.
